National Drug and Alcohol Awards Honour Roll Marks Achievements
Western Australia’s Professor Dennis Gray and Canberra’s Lynne Magor-Blatch have been inducted into the National Drug and Alcohol Awards Honour Roll. The National Drug and Alcohol Awards Honour Roll acknowledges individuals who have provided a significant contribution over the course of their careers to working to reduce harms from alcohol and other drug use.
Professor Dennis Gray was recognised for the major contributions he has made to addressing alcohol abuse in Australian Indigenous communities over more than a decade.
Presenting the award at the 2010 National Drug and Alcohol Awards ceremony, the Hon Paul Lucas MP highlighted Professor Gray’s commitment to the AOD sector. “He is an exceptional academic in the extent to which he engages with community organisations and with people who are part of the struggle for change. He enters difficult public debates confidently and in an expert manner which has had a big impact in helping aboriginal community-controlled health services.”
Ms Lynne Magor-Blatch was acknowledged for contributing to the alcohol and drug field, and more particularly the therapeutic community movement, for over thirty years. Magor-Blatch has brought a wealth of experience to the sector, having worked in both England and Australia. She is currently the Acting Executive Director of the Australian Therapeutic Communities Association (ATCA).
The inductions took place at the 2010 National Drug and Alcohol Awards ceremony in Brisbane on Friday 25 June 2010 at the Citigate King George Square Hotel in Brisbane.
